Facing the Nemesis of Anxiety
Sudden noise stops running the show, and bracing for it becomes optional.
Maybe it is the fire alarm you cannot stop anticipating, or the flinch that arrives before any air horn even sounds. This session works with that exact pattern, the anxious anticipation that turns up long before there is anything to actually be anxious about.
You are guided to picture facing that noise the way you would face a difficult level in a game, with a nemesis to get past rather than run from. Imagined hypnotic ear protectors demonstrate a simple idea, that where your attention goes the volume follows, so most of your focus on your breathing or your work leaves only a fraction left for the alarm. Past moments of being caught by unexpected noise become evidence you already coped, and a memory of real bravery gives you something solid to step back into.
It runs about sixteen minutes, and it builds towards a version of you who hears the noise and simply carries on. Most people notice the nemesis getting a little smaller each time they come back to it.
